Describe the representation of of youth in the two posters. What are the connotations of the two texts?

Poster Analysis
This is the film poster of 'This is England' which is a film all about the skinheads and them as a sub-culture. Immediately you can see that this film is about a bunch of people who are trying to rebel or stand out. This film poster is very colourful but simple. It looks like it is set in a part of London or somewhere that looks quite rough and like its part of an estate. Where they are all standing is in front of a corrugated iron wall which could represent at some point in this film there is a blockage of some sort, maybe of their own freedom and lives. Standing in front of this wall, also makes them look 'harder' and stand out more as a group whereas if they had been placed in the midst of the estate they would not stand out as clearly. The way the are positioned means that we can see all of their appearances clearly which is one big way they are represented and how they represent the sub-cultures.
They are all in a line across the picture which shows us that they could all be a group that get on or it could mean that some are seperate, mainly though they look like they are all friends are a part of the same subculture. They are all seem to have their own style but some look similar and therefore could all be a part of the same sub-culture but they all have individual personalities.
They are all looking at the camera, some are stood in different positions but they all look at the camera and none of them look happy. They are all looking either miserable or have a stern look on their faces. This comes across as slightly aggressive and negative. This then goes on to connote the typical stereotype of British youths and they way that they are portrayed to use through the media.
The title of the film is in red, white and blue which is an obvious representation of Britain. The way that this font has been used makes it look as though it is on the iron wall and also the name of the director looks like graffiti and as though it has been sprayed on. These little effects help us to build up an instant portrayal of the people and the film itself and where it is set. All of the different effects on this film poster connote the characters to being maybe rough and violent but also quite laid back and also rebellious.

Poster Analysis

This is the film poster of 'Quadrophenia' which is a film all about the mods and rockers and how their lifestyle was back then and them as a sub-culture. This poster is very similar to the one above because they are all stood in front of a wall and all in a line. This is how the other poster represents the characters and I think this is a good way because it makes them all stand out but again the way they are stood creates a negetive vibe and maeks them look more threatening. The image is not as strong because it is not in colour therefore you do not get the full extent of where they are or their clothing etc. Most of the characters seem to be wearing long coats which makes them look similar therefore you can tell they all belong to a sub-culture. Another similarity is the title of the film is in red, white and blue again, which clearly represents Britian. Even in this image, the youths seem threatening and this is still sterotypically shown in media today, even more so.
